If you're anywhere near Hemingway, if you like barbecue, and if it's Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, check out Scott's Variety Store, on Highway 261 just outside of town. Whole hogs, Pee Dee (a/k/a eastern NC) style, with white bread, and soft drinks from a can. Eat in your car. This place is the real deal. Warning: Don't ask for extra sauce. What's on it is plenty!
